What is an Optometrist?
An optometrist is someone who towards the end of their school years takes a long hard look at their options and decides they don’t want to spend their working life looking into people’s mouths, in their ears or up their noses. A life of gazing deeply into people’s eyes seems an obvious choice.
An optometrist should be the first port of call for anyone with eyes. Brown eyes, green eyes, blue eyes, pink eye, red eye, blurry eye, tired eye, dry eye, watery eye, sore eye, arc eye, stick-in-eye.
Optometrists love eyes. After 5 years at university learning all about them they spend their days examining eyes to ensure that they are healthy and that they are seeing as well as they can.
An optometrist should be the first port of call for anyone with eyes. Seriously.
At Oamaru Eyecare, aside from performing eye examinations that ensure that your eyes are healthy and that you are achieving the best vision possible with glasses and/or contact lenses, we have special interest in several areas including: myopia control, glaucoma treatment, acute care, dry eye and the therapeutic management of many eye diseases.
Anything not in our wheelhouse (like eye surgery) we refer on to the eye clinic in Dunedin or to an ophthalmologist (eye surgeon) in private practice.
